Sociable City Assessment
Des Moines, Iowa

Project Overview  |   The future of sociability

Downtown Des Moines

Over the last decade, Downtown Des Moines (DSM) has experienced a renaissance, booming with vibrant business and culture. $3 billion has been invested in the capital city, with an average of 40 ongoing development projects happening at any given time. Greater Des Moines (DSM) has soared to new heights on the national scene, ranked by many publications as one of the best places to live.

Using the Social City Assessment, Responsible Hospitality Institute (RHI) will create a comprehensive plan to respond to the needs, culture and environment of Downtown DSM’s vibrant and expanding evening and weekend economy in Historic Court District.

RHI is the world’s leading organization in the field of working with cities to develop programs that are unique to the concerns and growth patterns of the city in which they are working.

What is a Sociable City Assessment

A Sociable City Assessment (SCA) is a team building process to achieve buy-in with your city’s key stakeholders and analyze your social economy’s strengths, challenges and opportunities for improvement. Over a period of six to twelve months, RHI staff and consultants will observe your city’s nightlife firsthand, conduct focus groups and collect data to drill deep into your city. Not only will you receive an action blueprint with next steps, but we’ll also help you build bridges of trust and communication between key stakeholders to guide implementation.

Opportunities to Participate

Our process mobilizes a team of people with credibility and access to resources to ensure the diverse voices from your city are heard. This is where you come in! Your input matters. You have been invited to participate because you bring important insights about nightlife and the social economy. Check out our upcoming events, where you can bring your questions, concerns and suggestions to the process.
