Colleen Hawkinson has over 20 years of urban planning experience in both the public and private sectors. As the inaugural Executive Director of the Dupont Circle BID, a position she has held for four years, Colleen created an organization that plays a vital role in the Dupont Circle neighborhood’s re-emergence as a top destination neighborhood. As the BID’s leader, Colleen oversees all BID activities and is responsible for creating and executing the organization’s strategic mission. Prior to joining the BID, Colleen led the Strategic Planning Department at the District Department of Transportation (DDOT). In this role, she was instrumental in planning for infrastructure and economic development projects on both a regional/ City-wide level and on a neighborhood level. She managed a number of streetscape projects that resulted created economic growth in neighborhoods, her participation on the Streetcar initiative and dedicated bus lane program helped the City prioritize safety, equality and efficiencies in D.C.’s transportation system. Colleen has a Master’s in Urban and Environmental Planning from the University of Virginia. She is a certified guide in Forest Therapy & Nature Mindfulness through the Cultured Forest Program. Colleen lives in Washington, D.C., with her husband and their two daughters. You can find her running or strolling (depending on the day) in Rock Creek Park.
