Michelle shared her inspiring journey from growing up in rural Kentucky to becoming one of only two female presidents in the NHL. A former Vanderbilt women’s basketball player, her career path included auditing at KPMG and leadership roles within Vanderbilt Athletics before joining the Nashville Predators as their first in house counsel. Over 18 years, she rose through the organization as general counsel, CFO, COO, and ultimately president, while also serving as Chairman of the Nashville Predators Foundation.
The conversation highlighted the powerful role professional sports have played in transforming Nashville. Michelle credited the Predators and Titans with helping revitalize downtown, pointing to Bridgestone Arena as a catalyst that turned a once struggling area into one of the most vibrant downtowns in the country. She emphasized the long term vision behind the arena’s development and how modern, downtown integrated venues now strengthen local businesses and community engagement.
Both Michelle and Jim reflected on the unique ability of sports to bring people together. They discussed how stadiums, bars, and shared viewing experiences create a sense of community—even among strangers. Michelle agreed that sports can serve as a powerful unifying force in an increasingly divided world.
Michelle also spoke about the Predators’ deep commitment to community impact, from supporting the city during natural disasters to assisting during major emergencies. Reflecting on her role as a woman leader in sports, she emphasized that while her gender has shaped her experience, it has never been a barrier. Instead, she hopes her visibility shows young girls that hard work, education, and perseverance—not gender—define what’s possible in sports leadership.
